NeuroMobility

Neurological diseases such as spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, or stroke, as well as the consequences of neurological injuries or viral infections, pose significant challenges for those affected and their families. Life changes suddenly, and the ability to exercise self-determination, be active, and move is limited. Most of these diseases are incurable. Those affected must learn to live with flaccid or spastic paralysis. The goal is always to achieve long-term, pain-free mobility well into adulthood. Neuro-orthopedic examination and treatment methods have changed rapidly in recent years thanks to modern diagnostic procedures, new movement therapy and innovative orthopedic technology options. In addition to traditional neuro-orthotic procedures, microprocessor-controlled knee-ankle-foot orthoses represent a new treatment option. Whole-body neuromodulation offers innovative possibilities for the treatment of spastic movement disorders. The use of functional electrical stimulation is one of the established procedures. We report on practical experiences and the latest results of clinical studies in this dynamically developing therapeutic area.
