Good prosthetic treatment and successful rehabilitation require skilled surgical management. You will learn about the necessary surgical prerequisites for different underlying causes and discover how prosthetists and orthotists use this knowledge to assess stump-related issues.
Neurological conditions such as spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy or stroke, as well as the consequences of neurological trauma or viral infections, prove to be incurable in many cases. Those affected must learn to live with flaccid or spastic paralysis. The goal is always to achieve long-term, pain-free mobility. New treatment options are emerging: microprocessor-controlled knee ankle foot orthoses, whole-body neuromodulation, or functional electrical stimulation. You will learn about the latest results from clinical studies and practical experience within this dynamically evolving therapeutic field.
In this session, you will receive an overview of current developments in amputation surgery. The contributions demonstrate how muscles, tissue preservation, and surgical expertise affect function, prosthetic attachment, and long-term mobility. You will see how modern surgical techniques provide the foundation for improved functionality and patient treatment and care.
