A Prosthesis that Stands and Walks? – Correct Identification of Lower Leg Prosthesis Alignment Errors

A lower leg prosthesis simply means adding a connector? As if! The statics of the lower leg prosthesis are dynamically influenced by not one but two joints in the lower limb. Often the prosthesis is adjusted based on experience (gut feeling). Participants learn about the biomechanical relationships between the joints, including the torso. What is actually causing a pressure point? Does the end of the tibia need more room, or is the flexion position incorrect? A small degree of ML shifting is normal, isn’t it? Two patients demonstrate how the most common alignment errors can be identified in the gait pattern.
