Clinical Examination and Orthotic Device Fitting in Upper Limbs

The purpose of an orthosis is to unload, stabilise or guide the movement of muscles, bones or joints. It can be adjusted to permit controlled movements up to a predetermined limit (stop). It can also restrict the range of motion all the way to total immobilisation. The diversity of indications demands in-depth knowledge of the anatomical foundations, pathophysiological mechanisms and biomechanical principles. An overview of the aspects involved in fabricating a custom orthosis is provided according to the specific indication and the fitting levels. Participants also receive valuable patient care tips.
