Digital, additive insole manufacturing in four dimensions: With its latest update, Bauerfeind’s digital system solution, Bodytronic ID:CAM, has been expanded to include a key new feature: 3D printing as a rental model. This allows specialty retailers to individually model insole blanks and manufacture them directly in their own stores. Alternatively, they can also utilize Bauerfeind’s central production facilities. The fourth dimension—following scanning, designing, and manufacturing—is the comprehensive service, which includes, among other things, an intensive four-week onboarding process. Printing is done using FGF (Fused Granulate Fabrication) 3D printing technology, meaning the printer processes plastic granules (pellets) and builds the insole blanks layer by layer. The material can be printed in different structures—either in a wave-shaped, particularly soft-supporting form (Gyroid) or in a supportive grid pattern (Rectilinear). This allows for precise control over the stability, flexibility, and cushioning properties of the blanks. 1-, 2-, or 3-layer insole blanks are possible, with materials that can be freely combined. Additionally, the Shore hardness can be varied within individual modules, allowing defined functional zones to be created in a single printing process. In addition to the integration of 3D printing, the BODYTRONIC ID:CAM update also includes a redesigned user interface and the new therapeutic configurator. After loading the foot scan data and defining the insole, the user decides whether to design the insole freely in 3D data mode or to use therapy mode: This mode offers indication-specific pre-designs for normal feet, flat-valgus feet, varus pes cavus, valgus pes cavus, and a flat design. These pre-designs serve as a basis for modeling and are suitable for both children and adults.
