Youth.Academy TO: Supporting Young Newcomers to the Industry at OTWorld 2024
Now in its sixth year, the Youth.Academy TO of the German Association of Orthopaedic Technology (BIV-OT) invites interested youngsters working in the industry to visit OTWorld in Leipzig. Trainees and students will have the opportunity from 16 to 17 May 2024 to network and discuss current developments, trends and challenges in orthopaedic technology.
Support for young professionals is crucial in light of the growing shortage of skilled labour in prosthetics and orthotics. Statistics show that the shortfall in prosthetics and orthotics and medical supply stores is even greater than in the care sector.
"Only by actively supporting the next generation can we ensure that in future patients will continue to receive the full spectrum of care that they need," says Lars Grun, a Member of the Executive Board and the Chair of the Professional Education Committee of the German Association of Orthopaedic Technology (BIV-OT). "This is why our organisations will benefit two-fold by sending their young staff to Leipzig. On the one hand, giving their employees the opportunity to attend Youth.Academy TO shows how much they are valued. Offering such respect also helps to increase the loyalty of professional staff. At the same time, whenever employees have the chance to expand their knowledge and network with each other, it has a positive effect on the organisation as a whole. At OTWorld, YA.TO achieves both of these aims. Participants can learn about developments and trends throughout the industry and benefit from professional development while also gaining experience, engaging in conversations and already beginning to network with professionals in the industry as well as with other students and trainees," Grun explains.
Programme Highlights for Young Professionals
Participants can attend selected congress events on both days including lectures on this year's main theme of paediatric/adolescent and neuro-orthopaedics as well as highly topical sessions on treating those injured in the war in Ukraine and workshops demonstrating practical applications. The online congress programme provides an overview of the content of each session.
There will also be plenty of opportunity for networking and partying together. The opening of this year's Youth.Academy TO is scheduled for 10:30 am on 16 May in the Glass Hall. In the afternoon, refreshments will be served at the YA.TO Meeting Point. On the evening of the first day, participants can look forward to the traditional barbecue night in the Pocket Park from 6 pm.
