Continuation of a Reliable Partnership: Leipzig to Remain Permanent Venue for OTWorld
The German Association of Orthopaedic Technology (BIV-OT), Confairmed GmbH and Leipziger Messe GmbH will continue their 21-year joint success story: The contract for OTWorld's established venue in Leipzig has been extended until 2036, ahead of schedule. This secures the continued expansion of the foremost international interdisciplinary and professional platform for modern medical aids. The next edition of the World Congress and the leading International Trade Show is planned for 10 - 13 May 2022 to take place as a face-to-face live event in Leipzig, after having been held as the exclusively virtual OTWorld.connect in 2020 due to the Corona pandemic.
"In these exceptional times, we would like to send a positive signal to the industry worldwide that we will continue to successfully shape and develop the global event OTWorld together in the future," emphasised Martin Buhl-Wagner, Managing Director of Leipziger Messe, at the same time thanking the BIV-OT and Confairmed for the many years of trust they had demonstrated. "This enduring cooperation enables us to adapt the extensive digital solutions implemented by Leipziger Messe to the needs of the international OTWorld audience in the long term. The ongoing partnership gives us the flexibility that is required to design and implement new formats," says Buhl-Wagner.
Leipziger Messe brings to the cooperation a wealth of experience from its strong medical cluster - which includes industry events such as therapie Leipzig, a trade show with congress for therapy, medical rehabilitation and prevention, as well as the ISPO World Congress.
The Dream Team's Successful Partnership
"BIV-OT, Confairmed and Leipziger Messe - this has been a fruitful connection for a long time, and is indeed a dream team!", states Alf Reuter, President of BIV-OT. "We owe special thanks to the dedication of the entire OTWorld team throughout these uncertain times of the Corona pandemic. Their willingness to explore new approaches has made it possible to set up the digital OTWorld.connect, one of the largest medical congresses of the past year, which also included industry showrooms." This special situation required "blind faith" - a risk that has paid off, Reuter concludes. "The crisis has put our partnership to the test and confirmed its strength. It has shown that our world event is in the right hands, and that this tried and tested constellation offers the best prospects for development in the years to come. For this reason, we have decided, well ahead of the deadline, to extend our contract with Leipziger Messe until 2036 - because it's true: never change a running system!"
The Success Story Began in 1973
In 2014, the contract was extended until 2026, also ahead of schedule. OTWorld dates back to 1973, when the BIV-OT invited visitors to the first annual general meeting with a conference programme and exhibition in Berlin, which at the time was still divided. ORTHOPÄDIE TECHNIK international, the predecessor to OTWorld, opened its doors in Düsseldorf in 1976. The event was renamed ORTHOPÄDIE + REHA-TECHNIK international in 1985. Since 2000 it has been held in Leipzig, where the specialist event has expanded internationally and consolidated its growth. Leipziger Messe has been responsible for the International Trade Show ever since. As a subsidiary of BIV-OT, Confairmed GmbH holds the trademark rights for the entire event and is responsible for organising the World Congress. As conceptual partner, the BIV-OT contributes industry-specific and organisational know-how. The name was changed to OTWorld in 2013.
The International Trade Show and World Congress OTWorld offers a unique range of products and services to technicians in orthopaedics, orthopaedic footwear and rehabilitation as well as therapists, doctors, engineers, and medical trade and insurance companies' employees. Due to restrictions resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, in 2020 OTWorld.connect Special Edition took place in exclusively digital form as an online world congress with virtual product worlds – confirming its position as the world's leading industry meeting place. More than 4,400 accounts from 93 countries accessed the 2020 event either live or via the Media Library, which remained available for three months afterwards. Generally, each account was used by several users. The Media Library alone counted more than 15,000 accesses for the lectures stored within.
As long as the pandemic allows, OTWorld will return as an international on-site event with supplementary global digital attendance from 10 to 13 May 2022. The German Association of Orthopaedic Technology (BIV-OT) is OTWorld's conceptual partner. The owner of the OTWorld brand and organiser of the congress is Confairmed GmbH. The Leipziger Messe GmbH is responsible for the trade show.
