World Meeting of O&P in Leipzig
OTWorld's international trade show and world congress will occupy three exhibition halls covering a total of 50,000 square metres at the Leipziger Messe from 15 to 18 May 2018. More than 21,000 experts from orthopaedic and rehabilitation technology, orthopaedic footwear technology/ pedorthics, medicine and therapy are expected.
"Innovative strength and internationalism are the buzzwords that OTWorld, as the world's largest industry meeting place, will once again be demonstrating this year", explains Martin Buhl-Wagner, Managing Director of Leipziger Messe. "I am particularly pleased that we have been able to welcome more exhibitors than ever before, thus continuing the success story of OTWorld in Leipzig." 570 exhibitors from 43 countries will come to OTWorld this year. Among them are not only the market leaders, but also numerous young companies. Digitisation is particularly popular with many companies.
However, the quality of care must also be kept in mind with the innovative power. "Demographic change presents technical orthopaedics with great challenges. The number of patients that we have to treat with medical aids will increase significantly in the coming years," emphasises Klaus-Jürgen Lotz, President of the German Association of Orthopaedic Technology (BIV-OT) and representative of the conceptual partner of OTWorld.
Interprofessional knowledge transfer
Technical orthopaedics provides care at the interface between man and technology. The quality of care is decisively influenced by the professional exchange between orthopaedic technicians and physicians. "It has become clear since the turn of the millennium that it is not a good X-ray, but rather the quality of life of the patient that is the success parameter of every orthopaedic treatment," emphasises Congress President Prof. Dr. Volker Bühren. "As a result, physicians inevitably came into increased contact with therapists in physiotherapy or occupational therapy as well as with orthopaedic technicians. The importance of the provision of aids and conservative therapy was imperatively communicated through these specialist areas. The development of the World Congress and the success of OTWorld demonstrate the importance of inter-professional and interdisciplinary exchange at eye level." In addition to the German Congress for Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery (DKOU) and the Congress of the Association of Southern German Orthopaedists and Trauma Surgeons (VSOU), OTWorld has become the most important conservative congress for physicians, says Prof. Bühren.
