Simon Schleifnig, location manager at FAIRNET, a subsidiary of Leipziger Messegesellschaft GmbH, explains the idea behind the digital presentation of products at OTWorld.

The OTWorld.connect 2020 trade show and world congress will be held online from 27 to 29 October. After intensive discussions with representatives of the exhibitor advisory board and the programme committee, the German Association of Orthopaedic Technology (BIV-OT) as the conceptual sponsor and Leipziger Messe as the organiser have jointly decided today to hold OTWorld.connect from 27 - 29 October 2020 exclusively as a digital event.

Simon Schleifnig, location manager at FAIRNET, a subsidiary of Leipziger Messegesellschaft GmbH, explains the idea behind the digital presentation of products at OTWorld.

What does Fairnet do? What is their role?

Fairnet is a comprehensive 360° service provider for spatial communication. We support customers with all aspects of trade fairs, congresses and events and help them to showcase their brands or products. With the spread of COVID-19, much communication has temporarily shifted from physical to virtual space. I manage Fairnet's office in Düsseldorf.

What will Fairnet be doing for OTWorld?

We've created an online exhibition centre for OTWorld. In the so-called Innovation Showrooms, exhibitors can present their latest products. It was important to us that we not only digitally recreate an exhibition hall or even exhibition stands for the virtual area, but that we create a world of its own - OTWorld - in which both exhibitors and visitors could meet.

The change of plan came at fairly short notice. How did you approach it?

From the start, it was important to us to develop a virtual solution that, despite being short-term, would meet the specific requirements and needs of OTWorld exhibitors and visitors. We therefore began by focussing on the essence of the brand. What makes this event special? What is the event about, and what do the exhibitors stand for?

On the other hand, we have also considered the visitor experience. We are confronted every day with various media and platforms providing us with information in diverse ways. In what way does OTWorld stand out? What do you need to offer visitors to make the virtual exhibition area an experience? How do we delimit the showrooms?

Based on these considerations we have devised a sphere comprised of honeycombs. Each of these honeycombs is an exhibitor's Innovation Showroom. Together, the networked exhibition areas make up OTWorld.

Visitors can now immerse themselves in this virtual environment and find themselves "in the centre of the world". From there, they can look around, move about, and explore the many different possibilities of virtual OTWorld.

What models have you developed for the exhibitors?

For Innovation Showrooms throughout the honeycombs, we have prepared three packages for exhibitors - Light, Medium and Premium. Depending on the package, different numbers of products can be exhibited. Additional functions are also enabled in the various packages. The Light package mainly includes communication via images and text. A video can be integrated into the Medium package and exhibitors have their own video conference tool in the Premium version.

The three packages form the basis for the Innovation Showrooms and can be supplemented with individual modules. For example, it is possible to integrate products as 3D models and apply effects/animations to them.

What can visitors look forward to?

Visitors can look forward to an exciting event in a completely new virtual environment. Our Honeycomb World and Innovation Showrooms invite you on an intuitive and innovative tour of the industry's new products.

What do you personally consider to be special?

For me, it's the complete package of this year's OTW digital formats, including the Live Streams and the Innovation Showrooms. There are also classic but newly interpreted elements, such as the tours of the fair, which will ensure OTW.connect 2020's success.

Is it possible to get in contact with you?
