Beacons of Knowledge: High-profile Online Congress Programme at OTWorld.connect
Interactive, Interdisciplinary, International: OTWorld.connect online-congress from 27 to 29 October 2020 will focus on the high-quality supply of medical aids – and will do so with a global perspective. Worldwide landmark projects, such as a successful supply network for arm prosthetics from the USA, will be featured. From osseointegration to trends in prosthetics research, major symposia and renowned keynote speakers, in-cluding Prof Michael Goldfarb from the USA, will focus on the hottest topics in the industry. The programme will be supplemented by industry policy podiums, poster sessions, courses and workshop discussions. All events of the bilingual congress will be broadcasted exclusively online.
Leipzig is once again setting an example for the worldwide exchange of knowledge. International experts will discuss creative supply solutions at the newly designed OTWorld.connect. One of the groundbreaking symposia is "Osseointegration" with Rickard Brånemark, MD, PhD, University of Gothenburg, University of California, who has significantly advanced osseointegration in prosthetics.
The landmark symposium "Advanced Upper Limb Prosthetics" with Congress President Michael Schäfer, Managing Director of Pohlig GmbH, and John M. Miguelez, President and Senior Clinical Director of Advanced Arm Dynamics, USA, looks behind the scenes of successful interdisciplinary work. Merkur Alimusaj, Head of Technical Orthopaedics, Heidelberg University Hospital, and Dr Urs Schneider, Head of Biomechatronic Systems, Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA, will shed light on the "Future of clinical and technical functional testing of orthoses and prostheses" in a completely new interactive format accompanied by short online surveys.
Keynotes: Looking Ahead
The keynotes are also among the highlights of the programme in this special digital edition of OTWorld.connect. Oliver Leisse, for example, looks at "The golden twenties and the future of healthcare – new tasks, new opportunities". Prof Michael Goldfarb of Vanderbilt University Medical Center, USA, is devoted to "Trends in lower limb prosthetics research: Enhancing adaptability through powered and semi-powered devices". Activist Raúl Aguayo-Krauthausen will take a critical and at the same time combative stock-taking of "Participation, Accessibility and Inclusion".
How is care developing worldwide? What can we learn from each other despite all the differences in the professions and health care systems? Transdisciplinary cooperation with renowned professional societies is in the DNA of OTWorld.connect. With "Transfemoral socket design in the USA and Germany: What is the state of the art?" and "Assessments, documentation and clinical sciences for research", two satellite symposia in cooperation with The American Academy of Orthotists & Prosthetists (AAOP) will take place in addition to routine care.
Together with the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO), the topic of "Education standards" will be considered. Other partners for symposia, courses and work-shop discussions are, for example: the Advanced Training Association for Orthopaedic Technology (FOT) (including the course "Digital workshop processes - The paperless workshop", with FOT President Ingo Pfefferkorn, Head of the Orthopaedic Technology Department at OTB GmbH/GHD GesundHeits GmbH Germany); German Society for Trauma Surgery (DGU) (symposium "Amputation surgery and conservative treatment of residual limbs", with Congress President Prof Dr Christoph Josten, Medical President of the University Hospital Leipzig, among others), The German Society for Interprofessional Aid Supply (DGIHV) (symposium "Conservative treatment in orthopaedic footwear technology", with Prof Dr Bernhard Greitemann, member of the executive board of the DGiHV) and the Society for Orthopaedic-Traumatological Sports Medicine GOTS e.V.
