Optimum Pediatric Care
The World Congress of OTWorld 2022 will be focusing on orthopaedic care for children who were either born with or have developed malformations or disabilities.
"Pediatric care accounts for a significant share within orthopaedics and orthopaedic technology. The conservative treatment of patients who are still growing is an interdisciplinary task that we have to and want to take on," Dipl.-Ing. Merkur Alimusaj, Congress President of OTWorld 2022 and Head of Technical Orthopaedics at the Clinic for Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery, Heidelberg University Hospital explains "Whether these children have infantile cerebral palsy, congenital clubfeet or spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), each one presents us with orthopaedic and neuro-orthopaedic symptoms and challenges to which we have to respond on an individual basis. In courses and symposia, topics will be examined in more detail by experts to encourage knowledge transfer between research and practice."
In the symposium Between Conservative and Surgical Approaches to a Child's Foot various treatment options for clubfoot will be presented. This series of lectures is led by Dr. Falk Thielemann and Dr. Jörn Dohle and is run in cooperation with the Gesellschaft für Fuß- und Sprunggelenkchirurgie e.V. (DAF – German Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society).
Lectures as part of the symposium Child-(neuro)orthopaedics: Current Surgical Methods and Treatment Concepts, led by PD Dr Sébastien Hagmann and Congress President of OTWorld 2022 Dipl.-Ing. Merkur Alimusaj, will give an overview of objective surgical planning as well as surgical axis corrections of the musculoskeletal system and orthopaedic technical care of the lower extremities and trunk.
Further courses will look at therapy procedures for spinal muscular atrophy (course: Current Treatment Concepts and Therapy Methods for SMA) as well as therapy measures for bent splayfoot for children and adolescents (course: Bent Splayfoot in Different Age-Groups).
